In 2019 John Martling was a finalist in the Wassenaer competition in Utrecht with ensemble Phaedrus.
As a much appreciated accompanist and soloist, John Marting has performed solo and together with many ensembles in Switzerland and in most of the countries in Europe.

John Martling has always had a deep passion for music. He studied the guitar for Bo Hansson in the professional musician preparatory hich school programme in Södra Latin.
John Martling began his higher musical education in the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. There he studied the performance of early music and basso continuo on the lute and made exchange studies with Francesca Torelli at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan.
John Martling completed the Bachelor (graduated 2016) and Master programme (gruaduated 2018 with distinction) in Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Peter Croton, studying the use and repertoire of the theorbo, the archlute, and the baroque- and renaissance lute, as well as singing with Sebastian Goll.
John Martling then took part in the Specialized performance of renaissance music master programme with Marc Lewon as his lute professor and Ozan Karagöz and Grace Newcombe as singing teachers.
Alongside this John Martling also participates in the "Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies" (AVES) in the SCB, led by Paul Agnew, Björn Schmelzer, Stratton Bull and Lisandro Abadie.
In 2017 John Martling won the Romanus-Weichlein prize in the H.I.F. Biber competition in st. Florian with ensemble Viatoribus.
In 2018 John Martling played the introductory concert in the yearly meeting of the German Lute Society in Füssen.
